02 / THE EXPLAINER

The method behind the result.

Choose the composition

Open an image, then select a free crop or a square, portrait, story or landscape ratio. A ratio preset starts with a centered crop inside the original image. Move the selection by changing X and Y, measured from the upper-left corner. The orange outline shows the area that will be retained.

Make the crop precise

Width and height are measured in original image pixels. With a ratio selected, changing one dimension updates the other. Coordinates and dimensions must be whole numbers, and the rectangle must remain inside the source image. The tool reports invalid rectangles rather than silently moving your crop.

Export and review

The download contains only the selected rectangle, without automatically resizing it. Use the Image Resizer if the final placement needs different dimensions. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency; JPEG uses white. Check that faces, logos and text remain inside the crop before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before you put your result to work.

01Can I drag the crop rectangle?

This version uses exact pixel controls and an outline preview, rather than a drag handle.

02Can I crop to 9:16?

Yes. Choose the 9:16 preset and adjust the position.

03Does cropping shrink the subject?

No. It removes pixels outside the selected rectangle without scaling the retained pixels.

04Can I undo after downloading?

The original file is unchanged. Reopen it to make another crop.

05Is metadata retained?

No. The exported image contains newly encoded pixels rather than the original metadata.
